Hair Extensions

Types of Hair Extensions

Hair extensions are real or synthetic hair that is attached to one's own hair. Hair extensions have many benefits and can be used for many reasons. They come in many different styles, colors, thickness, and lengths. If you have thin hair, hair extensions can be used to make your hair appear fuller and thicker. You would simply choose a hair extension piece that has the fullness and thickness you desire. They're also a quick way to add length to your hair. Since they come in different hair lengths, you simply choose the one you want and can have longer hair in minutes. They come in different colors so you can find one that blends in with your own natural hair. However, there are extensions that can also be used to add highlights. Although all hair extensions are attached to your natural hair, there are many different applications and types of hair extensions to choose from.

Clip-in Hair Extensions

These extensions are composed of hair attached to a clip or comb and are temporary. They are attached to the natural hair by placing the comb or clip in. They can be removed and changed an unlimited amount of times without damaging the natural hair.

Skin Weft Hair Extensions

They are applied to the upper part of the natural hair using tape or glue. They lay flat on the hair and when matched properly, it's hard to tell them apart from your natural hair. These extensions are fairly easy to do at home and can be applied fairly quickly.

Heat Fusion Hair Extensions

These extensions are applied using a special type of adhesive with heat. A glue, wax or keratin adhesive is usually used.

Cold Fusion Hair Extensions

These extensions are similar to the heat fusion extensions but are much healthier for your hair. No heat is used. A special ultrasound device is used to create the bond. These hair extensions can last for up to six months.

How to Care for Your Hair Extensions

Hair extensions need to be shampooed however you should do this about every as infrequently as possible (about every 4-5 uses). This is because since they don't receive oils from the scalp like your own hair so they can dry out. You should condition them frequently. Moroccan Oil is recommended. You should not wash extensions while they're still in your head. You need to make sure your extensions are tangle free before they dry. Instead of a brush, use your fingers to detangle them.
